DIY Bath Salts with Dried Flowers and Your Own Signature Scent

BY Ing. Žaneta Milošová (Havírová)

A little wellness ritual you can make in just a few minutes. Bath salts help make your bath more enjoyable, relax your body, and thanks to the dried flowers, they also make a beautiful handmade gift. 🙂

🧪  Ingredients

Amount depends on the size of your container:

  • Bath salt – Epsom salt, Himalayan salt, sea salt, or any salt you have available
  • 1–2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1–2 teaspoons dried flowers
  • Optional: 1–5 drops of essential oil(s) (added to the dried flowers)

💚 What can you use?

Salts: Epsom salt, Himalayan salt, sea salt, Dead Sea salt.

Flowers and herbs: Lavender, rose, calendula, chamomile, cornflower, hibiscus, jasmine, rosemary, mint, lemon balm.

Essential oils: Lavender, grapefruit, sweet orange, lemon, cedarwood, geranium, peppermint, eucalyptus, ylang-ylang.

What does each ingredient do?

Salt is a popular bath ingredient that helps create a relaxing and soothing bathing experience.

Baking soda softens the bath water and may help reduce the feeling of hard water.

Dried flowers look beautiful, add a delicate natural fragrance, and turn an ordinary bath into a little wellness ritual… although they can also leave a bit of a mess. 😀

Essential oil adds fragrance and creates a more relaxing atmosphere—but a little goes a long way.

✨ How to make it

Pour the salt into a bowl and, if you’re using it, add the baking soda. Mix in the dried flowers.

Personally, I like to add the essential oil directly onto the dried flowers first. They absorb it better. Mix everything thoroughly with the salt before transferring the mixture into your chosen container.

Tip: If you’re using a paper bag, it’s best to skip the essential oil or use only a very small amount. The oil can soak through the paper, leave grease marks, and the fragrance may fade more quickly. I’m just pointing it out—it can still work if the essential oil is mixed in really well. That’s how I usually do it.

GG tip: Bath Tea

Pour the mixture into a small cotton bag and use it as a “bath tea.” The salt dissolves in the water while the flowers stay inside the bag, so you can enjoy your bath without filling the tub with herbs. 👍

Safety First 🙂🏥

  • About 2–4 tablespoons of the mixture are enough for one bath.
  • Do not use on irritated or broken skin.
  • If you have sensitive skin, start with a smaller amount.
  • Use essential oils with care, especially for children, pregnant women, and people with allergies.
  • Be cautious with citrus essential oils, as they may increase the risk of skin irritation and sensitivity to sunlight after bathing.
  • After your bath, the tub may be slippery or covered with flower petals. A cotton bag helps keep everything nicely contained. 🙂
