Shaving Cream

BY Bc. Veronika Krejsová (Součková)

If you are using a razor, you will not get by without a shaving foam or cream. It doesn’t matter which form of the product you choose, their goal is the same – to soften the hairs and care for the skin.

Some women may make do with foamy shower gel, but men have to be very careful not to injure their face. The beard is much coarser than other hairs on the body.

Women with sensitive skin may find choosing the right cosmetics a little more difficult as well.

That is why there is an option to make shaving cream at home and know what it’s made of.

We have a simple recipe for you, without any unnecessary perfumes, which could irritate your skin. If you would like the cream to smell nice, and you know that your skin won’t get irritated, don’t hesitate to add a drop of your favourite essential oil.

What you will need:

  • 1/2 cup of olive oil
  • 1 cup of coconut oil
  • 1 cup of shea butter
  • 3 teaspoons of baking soda
  • A whisk and a hand beater

How to proceed:

Melt the shea butter on low heat along with the coconut oil. A smaller, for example, 2-litre pot will be enough. Stir carefully with the whisk and slowly start to pour in the olive oil. Finally, whisk in the baking soda and put the mix in the fridge to cool down.

Once the mixture has solidified, remove it from the fridge, and whisk with to a creamy consistency with the hand beater. Put this into a sealable glass container and you’re done!

A cream prepared in this way can last you several days or weeks, depending on how you will treat it. It is important to keep the storing container clean. Our recommendation is to at least rinse it with hot water and dry properly.

Be sure not to scoop the cream with your hands, always use a clean “ladle” instead, to prevent bacteria from getting into it. Then you can stick to the best-before date of the used ingredients (the minimum shelf life of the product you’ve made will be the same as the ingredient with the shortest shelf life).

GS tip: We were absolutely blown away by this! Brilliant stuff, nothing left to do but to try it out for yourself. My skin is beautifully moisturized after shaving and the shaving worked like a charm. Only you have to wipe the razor more often, but it’s worth it! No need to use after-shave cream as the skin is not dry after shaving :-).
