DIY Leave-In Hair Serum

BY Ing. Žaneta Milošová (Havírová)

A refreshed scalp, hydration, and light volume.

Why add it to your routine?

This leave-in hair serum is a gentle treatment for both the scalp and hair strands. It helps hydrate the hair, soothe dryness, and promote a refreshed look without weighing the hair down.

It is not a miracle hair growth product, but a lightweight serum that can support a healthy-looking scalp, give hair a more supple appearance, and reduce feelings of dryness or frizz.

It is best used after washing your hair, when the scalp is clean and the hair better absorbs moisture.

🧪 Ingredients for 10 ml

  • 8.2 ml rose water
  • 1 ml hyaluronic acid, ideally 1% gel
  • 0.3 ml panthenol
  • 0.2 ml glycerin
  • 1 to 2 drops of Cosgard

💡 Optional:

  • 0.1 g inulin*, if you want the serum to be even gentler and more nourishing
  • If you add inulin, use a little less rose water. (If available)*

Effects of individual ingredients

Rose water

A gentle base that refreshes the scalp and gives the serum a pleasant scent.

Hyaluronic acid

Helps bind water and supports hydration of the scalp and hair shaft.

Panthenol

A popular hair care ingredient. Helps soften hair, soothe the scalp, and give hair a more supple appearance.

Glycerin

Supports hydration. A small amount is enough to prevent hair from looking sticky or weighed down.

Inulin*

A gentle plant-based ingredient that helps soften hair and care for the scalp.

Cosgard

A preservative suitable for water-based products. Helps protect the serum from microbial spoilage.

✨ How to make it?

Prepare a clean 10-ml bottle, ideally one with a dropper or spray nozzle.

Pour rose water into the bottle. Add hyaluronic acid, panthenol, and glycerin. If you’re using inulin, mix it thoroughly into the rose water first.

Finally, add Cosgard, close the bottle, and shake gently.

Done. The serum is light, water-based, and does not require rinsing.

🔧 Usage

First, test a small amount on your forearm.

Apply a few drops or sprays to the roots and gently massage into the scalp. You can also apply a small amount to the lengths, especially if your hair is dry or frizzy.

Ideally, use on damp hair after washing. Do not rinse.

For fine hair, start with a very small amount.

📦 Storage and Shelf Life

Store in a cool place, away from direct sunlight and high temperatures.

With Cosgard, it will last approximately 2 to 3 months. If the serum changes its scent, color, or consistency, do not use it anymore.

GG tip: If you have fine hair, use less glycerin or omit it entirely. The serum will be lighter and won’t weigh your hair down as much.
