DIY Diffuser For Your Car or Wardrobe

BY Ing. Žaneta Milošová (Havírová)

Why make one?

This small scented bottle will freshen up your car, closet, wardrobe, or any small space. You can customize the scent to your liking, from fresh citrus to delicate floral or a more robust woody fragrance.

The string gradually absorbs the fragrance blend, and the scent is slowly released into the air. When the scent fades, simply give the bottle a quick shake to reactivate it.

🧪 Ingredients for 10 ml

Option with IPM (Isopropyl Myristate)

  • 9 ml of IPM
  • 1 ml of essential oil or fragrance blend, approx. 20 drops

Advantage of IPM:
It is nearly odourless, carries scents well, and is not as greasy as regular vegetable oil. It is particularly suitable for cars, as it has a cleaner and more elegant feel than classic oil.

Option with vegetable oil

  • 9 ml of sunflower oil
  • 1 ml of essential oil or fragrance blend, approx. 20 drops
  • 1-2 drops of vitamin E. Vitamin E prevents rancidity

Advantage of oil:
It feels more natural, is easily available, and releases the scent more slowly. The downside is that it can be greasier, leave stains, and some oils may go rancid over time.

Recommendation:
For the car, I would prefer IPM. For the closet, the oil version can also be nice.

✨ How to make it?

Prepare a clean 10-ml bottle.

Pour IPM or vegetable oil into the bottle. Add your chosen blend of essential oils. Close the bottle and shake gently.

Insert the cap with the string. Before first use, turn the bottle upside down for 1 to 2 seconds so the string absorbs the scent.

🔧 Usage

Hang the diffuser in your car, closet, or a small space. The bottle should hang vertically

When the scent fades, briefly turn the bottle upside down and then right side up again. Don’t leave it upside down for too long, or the mixture may leak out.

Safety 🙂🏥

Be careful not to let the mixture come into contact with plastic, the dashboard, varnished wood, or fabric. It may leave stains or damage the surface. Keep out of reach of children and pets.

GG tip: Start with a gentler scent in your car. If it’s too faint, you can add more essential oil next time. A subtle scent is better in a car than a perfume bomb. Just a few drops of lavender, jasmine, cedar, or oregano will do. Simply whatever smells good to you. Feel free to use just one scent. 🙂
