Make your own homemade perfume in 3 steps for a fraction of the price – and without toxic substances.
Making your own perfume or eau de parfum is easier than you think. Sure, you can find fragrances that last forever at the drugstore, but at what price? Also, can you even know what you’re putting on (or in) your body? Your own perfume = your own choice, your own fragrance. 2-3 ingredients are enough and if you want, you can really go all out and experiment…

💪 How strong will it be?
Start with a subtle scent and add according to how well you adjust to it.
- A delicate day-to-day roll-on: 6 to 8 % of essential oils – 0.6 to 0.8 ml per 10 ml (approx. 10 drops)
- Stronger scent: 9 to 10 % of essential oils – 0.9 to 1 ml per 10 ml (approx. maximum of 20 drops).
Note: the terms perfume, EDP and EDT mainly refer to alcohol-based fragrances. The same percentages have a more subtle effect in oil.
GG tip: For me, personally, 10 drops is enough. The scent often stays for the whole day in the spots where you’ve applied it. It’s better to start with a smaller dose, as you can always add a few drops later. 🙂
🧪 What will you need?
- 9 ml of plant oil – fractionated coconut or jojoba oil are the best. Almond or grape seed oil can also be used.
- 0.6 to 1 ml of essential oils (approximately 12 to 20 drops in total).
- A 10 ml glass container with a roll-on ball.
✨ How to do it
- Pour the plant oil into the container.
- Add your chosen essential oils.
- Close, shake and let it set for a couple days. It’s possible that the fragrance will be slightly different then… you can also use the perfume immediately.
🔧 Use:
Apply to the pulse points on your wrist, neck and behind the ears. Roll-on isn’t a spray, hence the fragrance is subtle and ideal for everyday use.
Which essential oils to choose from? For example:
|
Fragrance type |
Examples |
| Fresh | orange, lemon, grapefruit, bergamot |
| Floral | lavender, rose, jasmine, peony |
| Woody, spiced | sandalwood, cedar, cinnamon |
| Herbal | mint, rosemary, sage, oregano |
| Exotic | ylang-ylang, vanilla, patchouli |
GG tip: Start with one or two fragrances. Mixing multiple scents together is alchemy – it can create a masterpiece or a repellent 🤭… Be careful, the line between these is very thin 😁.
♻️😎 Reuse is cool
You can reuse the glass roll-on after washing it thoroughly.
How to do it: rinse with warm water and soap, rinse it out several times with clean water and leave to dry completely. You can finish by cleaning it with a small amount of alcohol and leaving it to dry again.
⏳ Expiration date and storage
Ideally, use within 6 months of production. Store in a dry and dark place. Jojoba and fractionated coconut last longer than almond or grape seed oil. Always check the scent and colour before use, just to be sure.
Safety first🙂🏥
- Do a tolerance patch test, before first use, on the inside of your forearm and wait 24 hours.
- Do not use around the eyes or on irritated skin.
- Cold-pressed citrus oils can cause phototoxicity, so be careful in the sun or choose non-phototoxic varieties.
- During pregnancy and for children use only suitable oils and in low concentrations.
- Use only pure essential oils intended for cosmetic use. The number of drops is only approximate and varies depending on the dropper.
💚 Why will you love it?
- 100% natural ingredients – no mysterious substances or phthalates.
- Hydrates the skin – plant oil works as a bonus care.
- Practical and portable – it fits into every pocket or a purse.
- The scent lasts longer than water-based perfumes – the oil “holds” the scent on the skin for longer.
GG tip: If you make several mini roll-ons (e.g. according to your mood or the season), you can choose a scent every day like you choose and outfit.
